What effect did offshoring all manufacturing jobs to mexico have on Michigans economy?

Thanks for the answers but the manufacturing jobs went overseas in the 80's and 90's. Jennifer Granholm was elected in 2003?

  1. I thought it was more to China and Japan than Mexico. Do you know more than I do? Michael Moore, is that you again? We don't buy any of your crap including fahrenheit 9-11.
  2. next time you are real thirsty and buy a fountain soda, pretend the cup is Michigan, and everything inside it is Michigan's economy. Consider using your lips to provide pressure on the straw, as the off shoring, and the cup going empty the result. Take the lid off and turn it upside down. that last drop that falls out, is Michigan's current economy. The empty cup is the cranium of anyone who wants to blame that solely on taxes or unions.
  3. The reason the manufactures left the Great State of Michigan, (my state) is because Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D) has taxed them to death and opened the flood gates. When you remove incentives for companies to stay, they will pick up and move to where they can compete and make a profit. Jennifer seem to forget this part of Economics and it has had a huge impact on a awesome state.
  4. The combination of high taxes imposed by the dems, and the extortionary wages demanded by the union thugs, was too much for industry to survive. Read Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" if you don't believe me. But the GOOD news is that the dems are promising to do to the COUNTRY what they did to Michigan. Better not bend over too far, unless you have a cigarette to smoke after the inevitable @ss-pounding we're gonna get.
  5. I do not think outsourcing to Mexico and Canada was detrimental to the auto industry in Michigan. Without the saving realized, American automobiles would have been cost prohibitive and uncompetitive. However, moving the actual assembly operations to other states such as Tennessee has had a negative impact on Detroit. The high wages and retirement costs make Detroit too unattractive to build new facilities there. While once an important component of helping the auto workers attain a good living standard, the union rules are now destroying the very jobs they helped improve. There still seems to be little interest in resolving the problem from both sides. That is why Toyota has surpassed Ford for the number two spot in America. Eventually, Ford will go bankrupt and the retirees and current employees will be out in the cold. *
